Wedding Planning Tips for Eloping Couples

Wedding Planning Tips for Eloping Couples
Are you planning to elope some time soon? Many couples decide that the traditional wedding doesn’t appeal to them and they’d rather get away to get married. If that’s you, here are some tips to plan your perfect elopement.

Plan a trip around your elopement

Chances are good that you’re already going to do this one, but we’re including it just in case! If you’re traveling anyway, why not make a trip out of your elopement? Many couples who choose to elope combine their wedding and honeymoon into one magical trip! Choose a destination you would both love to visit and explore after you’ve tied the knot!

Hire a photographer

Although you’re not going the traditional route, you probably still want to include some of the elements of a traditional wedding. For example, you’ll still want a professional photographer so you can have some amazing pictures to bring home with you. You may also want to consider hiring a videographer. That way, you'll have a professional video of your special day to share with the friends and family who couldn't be there.

Talk to your friends and family

Whether or not you plan to include your family in your wedding plans, you probably want to at least inform them of your plans. Your friends and family might be disappointed that you’re not including them, but it’s still best to let them know.

Decide about a reception

After you’ve officially tied the knot, will you want to celebrate right away or plan a reception at home? Many couples that elope decide they’d still like to party at home with friends and family. Others would rather celebrate right away and have a mini-reception while away. Talk to your significant other and make a decision, so you can start planning accordingly.

Do your research

If your plan is to get married in a different state (or country) than the one you live in, make sure you do your research about marriage laws in that area. Find out what documents you’ll need and how you can obtain a marriage license. You might decide it’s easier to get legally married at home and travel for the ceremony (this is known as a symbolic ceremony).

Plan the details

Elopements require much less planning than traditional weddings, but you’ll still have some decisions to make. For example, do you want decor or no decor? Flowers or no flowers? Do you want to include a few select guests or have a just-the-two-of-you elopement? After you’ve made these decisions, plan the details!
