Post-Wedding To Do's

Post-Wedding To Do's

After months (maybe years) of planning, you’ve finally walked down the aisle and said, “I do!” Now that the wedding is over, there are still a few things to complete. Here is a list of important tasks to complete after the wedding.

Send Thank You Notes

Now that the wedding day has come and gone, it’s time to thank your guests! The best way to thank your guests for their gifts is to write a handwritten thank-you note. This task might feel overwhelming, especially if you had a larger guest count. Work together as a couple to divide and conquer! You can try tackling this task all at once (block out a few hours at least) or devote 15-30 minutes per day until the last note is written.

Change Your Name

If you plan to change your last name, prepare to run some errands. To get your name changed, you generally will need your ID and marriage certificate. Here are some of the places you’ll need to go to complete this task:

  • The Social Security Administration (or their website)
  • The DMV
  • Your financial institution(s)

You will also need to change your name on credit cards, at the post office, on insurance policies, and with mortgage and utility companies. Make a list and start checking these off one by one!

Create Your Wedding Album

Did your photography package come with a wedding album? If so, you may need to spend some time formatting it before it goes to print. If your photography package didn’t include an album, you can still use online tools to create your own! This task can take several hours but it’s worth it! After all, a wedding album is something you’ll look back on and cherish for decades to come.

Preserve Your Dress and Bouquet

After the wedding is over, you’ll want to take care to preserve some of your most precious items from the big day. Consider hiring professionals to preserve your gown and your bouquet. Be sure to follow any special instructions from these professionals, such as storing your dress in a cool, dry place and avoiding exposure to direct sunlight.

Make Sure Your Rings Fit

Sometimes you just don’t know how a new ring will feel until you’ve worn it for a while. After your wedding is over and you’ve spent some time wearing your new wedding rings, make sure your ring feels comfortable on your finger. Your band should not come off easily but should take some work to get over your knuckle. If you or your new spouse find their ring slipping off accidentally, be sure to get it resized as soon as possible.
