| FEATURED DESIGNER - LORENZO |
|
The famed Italian design firm Lorenzo has a week long trunk show at Koser Jewelers May 7-12. The Lorenzo Collection shown is in sterling silver and Green Amethyst, more properly called Prasiolite. The current hottest stone is a member of the quartz family along with amethyst and citrine. The necklace pictured was featured in this year's Grammy bag, given to all Grammy Award Nominees. You will feel like a pop star as you go out on the town in this collection. Lorenzo is strong in the use of colored gemstones- stronger than any designer I can think of. You will find virtually every color you love in one of his collections: deep garnet red, bright blue topaz, smoky brown quartz, vibrant pink sapphire, rich golden citrine, and lush purple amethyst...just to name a few.

Recently, we had the opportunity to become acquainted with Stacy Smith and her unique line of jewelry featuring the fingerprints of the ones you love in sterling silver. You may have seen the article about Stacy and her one-of-a-kind creations on the front of the Living Section of the Lancaster Newspaper.
Here's how it works. Stacy supplies Koser with clay. We get fingerprints of your loved ones in the clay. Stacy makes sterling silver beads with the fingerprints on them. The imprinted beads are made into a unique piece of jewelry. Prices start at 60$ and run to several hundred dollars depending on the design you select.

| FEATURED GEMSTONE OF THE MONTH - EMERALD |
I have heard of those who believe that wearing an emerald close to your heart will attract a lover. Others think that emeralds give them strength to overcome, and offer them wisdom, understanding, and financial blessings. I hope it's true; our emerald sales will triple!
Emerald is part of the beryl family. Other Beryls you may have heard of include: Aquamarine and Morganite. We also have an incredible Yellow Beryl piece in the store. Emerald has a Moh's hardness rating of 7- 7.5. There are sometimes problems with durability in emeralds, mostly because of the naturally present inclusions. Emeralds form in tiny cracks and fissures of their host rocks through a combined process of magma and metamorphosis. Formation in these very small spaces explains why the inclusions are so prevalent in natural emeralds. Many in the trade call this general presence of inclusions in Emeralds “jardin,” meaning garden in French.
Emerald has a Refractive Index of 1.565 - 1.602, and a density of 2.67- 2.78 which is average. The coloring agent in emerald is chrome. If you see a beryl of very light green, it is not classified by gemologists as an emerald, but is called Green Beryl. These lighter stones are colored by Vanadium.
The name emerald is from the Greek, and means green stone. Stop by Koser, and see our great collection of emerald jewelry!

| COVETED KOSER RECIPES |
|
I grew up in Memphis, Tennessee which just so happens to be the barbeque capital of the world. In the city where there are barbeque joints on just about every corner, the question often is, "Do you like 'em wet er dry?" Well, I personally like ribs wet and spicy, but my mother prefers them dry. This is her recipe
DRY RUB FOR RIBS
1/2 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup sweet paprika 2 T garlic powder 2 T onion powder 1 T salt 1T pepper 1 T thyme 1 t cayenne pepper
Mix ingredients together to see if taste is to your liking, and make adjustments. Use rub on spare ribs or baby back ribs on both sides. Let marinate in fridge for 24 hours. Cooking Methods: You choose wich works best for you..... 4-4 1/2 hours in a charcoal smoker (or) 2- 2 1/4 hours in the oven (or) Brown for 20 minutes each side, wrap in foil, and grill in indirect heat for 1 hour - 1 1/4 hours.
GRITS CASSEROLE In my childhood home, this was a regular side dish for barbeque.
buttered casserole dish (I actually use a souffle dish.) 1 cup of quick cooking grits cooked in 3 cups of water to which 2 cloves of minced garlic have been added. Cook grits 5-10 minutes, stirring until thick. 1/4 cup butter 1 cup grated chedder cheese 1 can chopped green chilies (optional) 1 egg beaten Add butter, cheese, and optional peppers to grits. Mix in the beaten egg. Pour in buttered casserole. Sprinkle top with more grated cheese. Bake 30-35 minutes in a 350 degree oven.
