Alwand Vahan

The location, 26 Rue Lamartine, 9th arrondissemont housed the residence and the atelier (studio, factory). Sacha's grandfather can be seen out front reviewing the details of charitable foundation he helped to create. The business strictly high end, and served an international clientele. Business was often conducted over dinner and cocktails. Fifteen jewelers were employed creating strictly made-to-order pieces for these elite connoisseurs.

Sacha's father took over the family business and moved it later to "5 rue Mayran." That location was a few streets away in an art deco building. The atelier remained there until the late fifties. An amusing anecdote during the mid fifties: one day a lady customer came to Arsene's office escorted by a friend from the United States who spent most of the afternoon while Arsene was sketching, having tea and playing a game later identifies as "tic tac toe." Much later when the incident was told to Sacha, he enthusiastically identified the gentleman as Gene Kelly, spending time out with his friends during the shooting of "An American in Paris". Society in those days was split between the theater-goers and film-goers who each made a point of ignoring each other, therefore Sacha's father was unaware of whom the gentleman in his office was.

Sacha was born in1940. He graduated from the Paris design school “rue due louvre,” the same school where his father had won his medals years before. He designed for Hermes for a number of years before beginning his career in the US. After having worked for David Webb, and other important design firms, he started his own firm at 604 Fifth Avenue in 1968. He went on to design and manufacture for Cartiers, Bloomingdale's, Neiman Marcus, and others. Many celebrity women wear his designs including Bette Midler, Linda Evans, and Hillary Clinton.
