One of the ways a gemologist will identify a gem stone is by measuring the gem's ability to bend light. This measurement is called the refractive index, RI.

Inspired by the weekly "By The Numbers" page in Time magazine. This week I read in Time that the average car on the road in the US is 10.4 years. I found that shocking, and maybe some of these numbers related to gold will be equally shocking to you!
